I am a visitor here, I am not permanent

Earlier this week I was asked if I considered Boston to be my home. I answered "yes" right away. Of course Boston is my home, I thought, it's where I live 9 months out of the year.
But now I'm starting to reconsider my answer. While it is true that Boston is where my life is now, Virginia is where my life used to be. From birth to 18, Virginia was everything, and I can't help but wonder why I've been so quick to give it up for the next best thing.
Tomorrow I leave to back to school, which means today is my last day in the house I grew up in. All aspects of my life are so up in the air right now, I have no idea when I'm coming back or if I'll ever live here again. It's just now starting to hit me what a huge step I'm going to be taking in 4 short months, and honestly, although I hide it well, I am scared shitless.

My future may be bigger and better than my past, but I know I will always want to come back here. So this goes out to you, Virginia. My safe haven, my constant. I think you are my home.

Virginia is warmer so I think I would pick it over Boston, although I haven't been to either. It's good that you love where you grew up, since not everyone does. Don't worry; you will be fine; everything will work out! Maybe some people thrive on uncertainty, the unknown, but I like to have everything sewn up. But I guess that would be boring. Transitions are the hardest for me to go through for myself and others. But so far, everything has worked out better than I could have imagined, so I hope it does for you, too, and you certainly have a lot of the building blocks in place with your degree, grades and so forth. I hope you don't mind the long comment; it's just a topic near to my heart.

As someone who went to Ireland for "4 months" and have been here for 8 years, I know how hard it can be to try and answer 'where's home?' questions. After so long being away, it hard to know what's home now but I know where I feel at home and that's here. Just go with your gut and you can't go wrong :)

Very mature insight. Nobody ever said growing up was easy, but you are thinking about all the right things.
Btw, the house next door looks awesome in the snow.
