Pop of color

No matter how early I get up for my 9:30 class I never have time to do my hair, which wouldn't be a problem if my natural hair texture wasn't Seth Rogen ("it's called 'jew'"-Knocked Up). This (in addition to hiding my blond roots) is why I can't get enough of the hot pink hat Liz gave me for Chrismukkah. Presentable hair with no flat iron required.

Ok and one sans hat, but cropped before the roots to save you the trauma.

I could never look into your eyes, and settle for wrong and ignore the right

Yesterday I bought Adele's new album, both because I love the sound of her voice and because I was in a music funk and needed a break from all the Anberlin I've been listening to lately. I get really obsessive when I find a new song I like. I play it over and over and over again, and after awhile I start creating music videos and choreographing new dances and complicated ice skating routines in my head. Some songs I even imagine myself performing on stage. Adele's new song, I Found a Boy, is this song for me at the moment. I think I've probably listened to it about 55 times since I downloaded it last night. It's a mellow ballad about moving on to greener pastures and rejecting past unhappiness. It's put me in kind of a mellow mood all day, which I feel is reflected by the muted colors in today's photos.

But yes, I can be introspective while wearing a hot pink hat.

Some weekend pictures

I don't do a lot of posts about my personal life, but these are too good not to share. This past weekend was a doozy. I spent one evening at Elizabeth's (aka miss Don't White Sugar Coat It) place for a pumpkin-themed party. I had more pumpkin cookies, pumpkin hummus, and pumpkin ale than I can possibly remember. Which probably speaks more to the amount of pumpkin ale than to the other two.

My friend Liz and I also went to Dragball, a BU event that mandates, what else, dressing in drag! I don't have a lot of man clothes so I went to Goodwill a few hours before the party and picked up a short-sleeved mens' oxford (à la Dwight Schrute) and a red and black tie. Liz also went to Goodwill (separately) and picked out a similar tie with the exact same color scheme. Of course we would pick out matching ties.

On Safari

Except not really because the most dangerous and exciting place I went today was my pilates class. And I was wearing spandex, not this.

Black and pink is my favorite color combination anyway

Knowing full well that I would stick out like a sore thumb against all the neutral-colored Parisians, I decided to wear my new brightly-colored cardigan today:
Huge surprise coming up here-- none of the strangers I saw gave a rat's ass about my burst of color. No shocked stares, no angry mobs, no cries of "Oh la la!" or "Mon dieu! Elle fait quoi alors?!" Looks like I wore a bright magenta cardigan in the heart of Paris and lived to tell about it.

How to make a plain winter hat into a cute winter hat

This may actually be the easiest how-to ever.

Step one: go get a hat. Mine was $5.95 at H&M. It's pretty boring (don't worry, H&M, I won't hold it against you):
Step two: go get some bow hairclips. Mine were $3.95 for a pack of 2, also at H&M. If you live in Boston, you can also check out Dajuli Sparkles (the website is a little creepy and not very informative but it does have the address) on Newbury Street for some awesome bow clips:
Step 3: Clip the bow onto the hat:
ZOMG cutest hat ever!!!!
All in all, this beautiful creation cost me just under $8 to make and took all of 2 seconds: Today's outfit was a keeper. At first I was a little iffy about mixing neutrals but Monique assured me it looked fine:

I believe this skirt is meant to be worn at the natural waist, but as I am slightly taller than average this left just about nothing to the imagination. So I bought it in a Large instead of a Medium and wore it around my love handles instead. Unfortunately it's still a little too big and at one point today I looked down and saw that it had pulled a 180 on me. Like it was exactly backwards. Perfectly centered, too. Who else has skills like this?Bah! Another one with the hat:
The view from our living room is getting better and better each day as the leaves change:
