August 31

My computer is threatening to get a virus so today's post is a little early:
I wore this hairbow as a pin last week:

And with one of my cute roomies Monique. It was a good day for short dresses and black flats:dress- Urban

Ignore the face, body, and person please

So I was doing my daily rounds (What I Wore, Keiko Lynn, FmyLife, Daddy Likey, etc.) and I found this gem on The Superficial. Amber Rose is kind of a C U Next Tuesday but DAMN, LOOK AT THOSE SHOES:

I am literally drooling all over my keyboard. Good thing my dad got me a water-resistant laptop (with this exact situation in mind, I'm sure).

August 30-- Nifty and Thrifty

Today's outfit is kind of special because the top and skirt are both thrifted! Take a look:

The light was much better today.
Easily the most expensive item of the outfit at $28, my Eastern Market necklace:
So worth it. I'll keep it forever.

August 29--so... why did I leave Virginia again?

'Twas a miserable day in Boston. Roomie Liz's flight was even delayed because of the "impending hurricane". The only good part of this weather was at dinner when a girl complimented me on my bright red raincoat and asked me where I got it. This got me thinking about all those poor girls roaming the streets in horrifying plastic bag ponchos simply because they don't know where to find a good raincoat. Time for a raincoat special! Here's mine. I got it from 344 on Newbury St. at the end of last year. It was about $60:
As my Jewish nana would say, "purdy shaaaahp" (which translates to "pretty sharp" for all of you not familiar with Jewish nanas and their accents). Photo taken by my amazing roomie Monique.

And now for the wonders I found on the infoweb:
Modcloth-- $99.99
Forever 21-- $29-80 (quite a steal)
Luii (via nordstrom.com)-- On sale for $64.90!

Aaaaand the rest of my outfit:
My coveted Urban bookbag (got it on sale at the end of last year).
My room has terrible lighting for pictures. I think I may have to use the common room from now on...
All my jumping pictures come out looking like this one.

August 28

Moving into a new dorm is EXHAUSTING. Today's outfit is essentially the same as yesterday's-- same shoes, leggings, and jewelry-- but I switched the tunic out for a the dress I wore here (styled a little differently).

Our monstrous rented minivan was completely full of my shit:
My room isn't totally prettied up yet (the comforter won't get here until mid next week), but I thought this rug would add some character:

August 27-- Advenchas in Woostah

I'm officially in Boston! My camera, on the other hand, is on my kitchen counter in Virginia. Today's pictures courtesy of my mom's cell phone:

Ugly luggage! Terrible, dirty, unsightly luggage that I can't afford to replace. Cute shoes though:
After leaving Logan my parents and I went on a wild goose chase looking for a Macy's (fail) and Bed Bath and Beyond (epic win! $300 worth of win!). Then we all talked with really terrible Boston accents for awhile and finally made our way to my aunt's house for the rest of the evening.

August 26-- If you have a freakishly long finger fetish, today is really your day

I was in and out of so many outfits today just packing everything up for my trip tomorrow I didn't really have a "daily outfit" per se. Unless you count black terry cloth short shorts, Old Navy 2-for-$5 flip flops, and a wifebeater as an outfit and not a big heap of trash. I did manage to get my nails done though. I've decided I'm bringing back the French Manicure. As promised, here is a picture of my creepily long alien fingers. I have at least a joint on everybody else I know:

August 25-- the birth of the Guac Soc(k)

I spent the day at Tysons II making my mom buy me things for my room in Boston (where I'll be living in just 2 days' time!!), so I threw on a halter and some jeans. I added a little white bow clip to the middle of the top to dress it up a little bit and also to divert your attention away from the fact that it's several sizes too big. Now you'll never notice!

The back. Strategic cropping was necessary to shield the public from my fat arms:
My boob bow of choice:
After shopping we met my cousin Lyss for dinner at a Tex-Mex restaurant near her new bachelorette pad in Ballston. I strongly recommend Uncle Julio's if you live in NOVA and are looking for spectacular guacamole. I tried to get a picture of it but failed epically. In fact, the only thing I succeeded in doing was getting guacamole all over my camera sock (and by "camera sock" I don't mean one of those cute electronics carrying cases that kind of looks like a sock. Like, I actually carry my camera around in an old white sock. It's usually inside out. Don't judge me).

This southern grammar catastrophe caught my eye as we were strolling through Ballston mall trying to find the parking garage:
I can honestly say that I have never had a stronger urge to photoshop an apostrophe onto a picture in my life. Maybe it can borrow one from the train wreck I found at Smith Mountain Lake last summer:

Vegetarian Gourmet-- Corn and black bean tacos

No outfit today, either because my outfit contained more spandex than cotton or because I decided to forgo clothing altogether and went about my day in the nude. Think what you will ;)

Anyways, this week's recipe is adapted from a similar recipe in SELF (which I may or may not have ripped out of a magazine at the doctor's office and shoved into my purse before anyone noticed), but, as always, I tweaked it to make it my own. Like, I ommitted the zucchini because zucchini is such a bitch vegetable, right?

INGREDIENTS

  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 ears white or yellow corn
  • 3 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 1 large tomato, roughly chopped
  • 1 cup canned black beans, rinsed and drained
  • 4 tsp cilantro, finely chopped
  • 8 warm corn tortillas
  • A few sprinkles shredded Mexican cheese

PREPARATION

  1. Steam the 2 ears of corn in a medium-sized pot. This will take about 20 min. After they're done, use a sharp knife to cut the kernels off the ear. Set them aside.
  2. In the meantime, heat the oil in a large skillet over high heat. Add in the garlic; cook 1 to 2 minutes.

  3. Add tomatoes; after another 5 minutes add the corn, beans, and cilantro. Cook until everything looks absolutely delicious (like 5 minutes):

4. Split the vegetable filling evenly among the tortillas.

August 23- last visit to the mothership

Since I make the long-awaited pilgrimage back to Boston this coming Thursday, I decided today was the day to visit Eastern Market for the very last time (until like... winter break, obv). Since it was quite literally hot as balls, I thought a maxi dress was my best option. I was wrong. Ladies, when the humidity is over 90% (as it usually is in this area), go ahead and skank it up with a short dress. It's the right thing to do.

Earrings-- 2 for $10!!
Not usually a big fan of gold (it looked better on me when I was a blonde) but these look ok, right?

August 22-- Just... terrible

Terrible pictures, terrible photo quality, terrible outfit. If I hadn't made a commitment to documenting my daily outfits these wouldn't ever have seen the light of cyberspace:

I think it's because if the (terrible) weather. Even a pink gingham sundress couldn't brighten up today's dismal forecast.

The dress saw better weather (albeit worse posture) in Florida this past chrismukkah break.

Get the boot

Horrible puns aside, have you been to Target recently?! Here are some favorites, all under $50(!!):

I have been in desperate need of new rainboots since my Marc by Marc Jacobs boots met their unfortunate demise several months ago at the hands of a particularly vicious Noreaster:
I tried on these little honeys at the store today, but instead decided to take another pair of booties home with me (not pictured on the site, unfortunately):
Tried these on too, but didn't buy them. Big freaking mistake, how fierce are they?! I'm so going back for them:
These are real leather so I wouldn't buy them, but you probably could:

Oh my god my dog is so cute

One of the one good things about having a dog with a ludicrously short nugget of a tail is that when she wags it terrorists die. That's how cute it is.

Canine exploitation at its finest.

August 21-- bring on the rawhide chews!

I think there's something about the animal print that makes this dress irresistible to people who work at animal specialty stores because I was SO the talk of the town at Petsmart this afternoon:

I wanted to talk a little more to the cutie taking care of the birds but he looked kind of young and I didn't want to add a Sex Offender stamp to my already bountiful police record (kidding. the worst thing I've ever been convicted of is "Improper Driving". Yes, that is an actual offense. 1-to-9 miles over the speed limit, baby, when you get in the car with me you take your life into your hands).

August 20-- Day to Night with George Clooney

In honor of my last day at work, I decided to break out the Modcloth skirt I just got in the mail. love. at. first. wear.

I stopped by the mall during my lunch break and took some myspace-style mirror pics in the bathroom after a mascara touch-up.
Later, I dressed it up a little bit for a dinner date with my cousin with the strappy brown heels I wore here:
Of course, one week before I leave to go back to school I figure out that my sister's room is the perfect place for pretty outfit pictures.
Thank god for Phantom Winnie the Pooh to ruin my shots.
The one thing I don't like about this skirt is how easily it wrinkles. When it arrived in its navy blue packaging, it looked like a little blue shar pei. Against my better judgment (the tag says dry-clean only and I am not exactly Susie Homemaker) I ironed it this morning. It looked great! However, by dinnertime it looked like I had scrunched it up around my waist and rolled down a hill, then taken it off, rolled it in a ball, and sat on it after gaining 50lbs. Fortunately for everyone, the wrinkles actually looked kind of nice. As I oh so eloquently explained to my cousin: "the wrinkles add character to it... like they do to George Clooney's face." Hence, the George Clooney skirt was born. And since I can't leave a good thing well enough alone, and enjoy making uncomfortable nicknames for things, I hereby dub this skirt The Cloon.
Which is cuter-- Clooney or the Cloon? Stay tuned for many more outfits to come, possibly involving both of the above.
